Meet Justine Joya
Honest, compassionate legal support—rooted in community and built on integrity.
Welcome. I’m Justine, founder of Joya Family Law. I’m a trial attorney, legal consultant, and advocate for individuals and families navigating some of life’s hardest transitions—divorce, legal separation, custody disputes, financial separation, and domestic violence.
Originally from Los Angeles, I come from a large Mexican and Filipino family. I made my way to Northern California to attend college at the University of California, Davis. I was a collegiate rugby player during my time at UC Davis, and I majored in Women’s Studies and Sociology both with an emphasis in law and gender politics.
I went on to earn my J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law, where I was awarded the Public Interest Law Certificate for my work with the Racial Justice Clinic, providing free legal services to marginalized communities facing criminal charges. I was fortunate to learn from some of the most dedicated and thoughtful attorneys in their field—their lessons continue to inspire me and my work today.
I moved to Oakland in 2019 to build a life rooted in service, community, and a healthy sports rivalry (yes, I’m still a Lakers fan). The East Bay welcomed me with warmth and authenticity, and it’s now home—personally and professionally.
At Joya Family Law, I combine litigation experience with a client-centered approach. While fully prepared to pursue litigation when necessary, I also know that sometimes the best outcome is one reached privately. My job is to help you understand your options, build a clear plan, and feel supported through every step—without judgment or ego.
While specific outcomes can never be guaranteed, what I can promise you is:
Clear, honest legal advice
Strategic guidance with empathy
Regular communication to ensure you’re never lost in the process
A fierce advocate—and a real human being
